Vol. 214 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Status Increase for Temporary Civil Servants.

22.

asked the Minister for Defence why temporary civil servants employed by his Department have not had the status increase paid to established civil servants with retrospective effect from 1st January, 1964, and paid in all cases to December, 1964.

I am not aware of any temporary civil servants in my Department who are in the position represented by the Deputy.

It is presumed, however, that the question relates to certain temporary civilian employees of the clerical and typing classes, recruited under the Defence Act, 1954.

The question of the award of increases to members of those classes, in view of the increases granted to civil servants of analogous grades, has been under consideration. An increase, retrospective to 1st January, 1964, has now been authorised in the case of temporary clerks employed under the Defence Act and it is hoped that a decision in the case of the typing classes will be reached at an early date.
