Vol. 216 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Untrained Teachers.

57.

asked the Minister for Education if he will arrange for the holding of a test to afford suitable untrained teachers the opportunity of being recognised as qualified.

58.

andMrs. Hogan O'Higgins asked the Minister for Education if he is prepared to recognise as qualified the untrained teachers employed by his Department who have had years of experience of primary teaching and who would from their record merit such recognition.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 57 and 58 together.

Two claims affecting untrained teachers are being dealt with at present under the National Teachers' Conciliation and Arbitration Scheme and I am therefore precluded from making a statement on the matters raised in these questions.
