asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state, further to a reply of 18th May regarding the erection of houses on the old jail site at Naas, County Kildare, whether he has now received the planning report from the local authority; if so, when he expects to come to a decision on this report; and if, in view of the housing shortage in Naas, he will expedite his decision in this matter.

The planning report on the old jail site, Naas, has been received from the council. A land use survey has been made which indicates that this site is located in such an area that it could be considered for either housing or commercial use.
I have informed the council that I have no objection to the acquisition of this site subject to their consideration of the planning officer's report as to the type of development desirable.
