asked the Minister for Transport and Power the numbers employed at Shannon Airport in aircraft maintenance, servicing and refuelling.

The number employed at Shannon Airport on aircraft maintenance, servicing and refuelling was 193 on 31st May, 1965.

24.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the total State investment in Shannon Airport to date.

The total amount of State capital expended on Shannon Airport up to 31st March, 1965, was £5.67m. At the same date, State capital amounting to about £6.22m., made up as follows, had been expended on the Shannon Free Airport Industrial Estate:

Share Capital taken up by the Minister for Finance in the Shannon Free Airport Development Company Ltd.

£3.42m.

Repayable advances issued by the Minister for Finance to the Company

£1.88m.

Non-repayable grants to industrialists

Grants equivalent to those payable under the Housing Acts

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the total amount spent on (a) the construction of jet runways at Shannon Airport, and (b) the provision of other facilities for the landing and servicing of jet aircraft.

Only one jet runway has been constructed at Shannon Airport. The total amount spent on the construction of the jet runway was £935,000 and blast fences for jet aircraft cost £3,400. No other facilities were provided solely for the landing and servicing of jet aircraft; the same facilities are used by all types of aircraft.

26.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the number of transatlantic passengers (a) outwards and (b) inwards carried by Aer Línte in 1964; and the percentage of these passengers who have (a) embarked and (b) disembarked at Shannon Airport.

The number of transatlantic passengers carried by Aer Línte in 1964 was (a) outwards 62,858 and (b) inwards 56,483. The percentage of these passengers which embarked and disembarked at Shannon was approaching 50 per cent and is growing.

27.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the total number of employees (a) male and (b) female at Shannon Airport and the Industrial Estate.

At 31st May, 1965, there were 3,090 male and 1,925 female employees at Shannon Airport, of whom 1,624 male and 1,465 female related to the Industrial Estate.
