Vol. 217 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Recording Scheme.

91.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if his Department, in consultation with the Artificial Insemination Association and the Agricultural Institute, have a milk recording scheme under survey; why the pedigree breeders were not consulted; and if he is aware of their anxiety because they were not consulted.

My Department has been consulting with the AI stations and the IAOS with a view to formulating proposals for integration of the three existing milk recording schemes, as envisaged under the Second Economic Expansion Programme. The Irish Pedigree Cattle Breeders' Council have been informed of these discussions and there will be consultation with the Council and other interests concerned when new proposals are formulated. These proposals would basically cater for pedigree herds in the same way as my Department's existing Scheme 20A for such herds.
