Vol. 217 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Painting Grants.

112.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of widespread dissatisfaction among managers of national schools who understood that a grant of two-thirds the cost was to be made by his Department for the painting of schools and who find that the grant is in fact considerably less than that sum; what grants for such work are available to managers at present; and if he will now increase this grant to two-thirds the cost in all cases.

I am not aware of widespread dissatisfaction amongst managers concerning the grants payable towards the cost of painting national schools. In fact, managers generally have expressed themselves as very satisfied with the scheme.

Under it two-thirds grant is payable subject to maxima which are based on current prices for painting and decorating. I am satisfied that these maxima are entirely realistic.
