Vol. 217 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department have approved of the preliminary lay-out plans for the proposed extensions to the water supply scheme at Castletownroche, County Cork.

The extensions in question form part of a large regional scheme, the preliminary outline of which will be discussed by an engineering adviser of the Department with the consulting engineer and county engineer next week. A decision on the proposals will then be conveyed to the local authority.

27.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make a statement on the present position of the Hollymount and Cahirbane water scheme in the Rathmore district, County Cork; and when he expects that this scheme will be completed.

I approved of Cork County Council's proposals for Stage 1 of this scheme on 6th July, 1964. I understand that the acquisition of land and water rights necessary for the scheme has not yet been finalised by Cork County Council. I am not in a position to state when the scheme will be completed.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government when approval will be issued for Belmullet, County Mayo, regional water supply scheme, the plans for which are in his Department at present.

This is a large regional scheme and the full examination of the preliminary report will probably entail a local inspection and discussions with the consultant and the county engineer. I am not at present in a position to state when a decision can be conveyed to the local authority.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the following sewerage schemes will be advertised for contract: (1) Bonniconlon, (2) Newport, (3) Bangor Erris and (4) Ballina Quay, County Mayo.

I am not in a position to state when these schemes will be advertised for tender. The position in each case is as follows:—

1. Bonniconlon: consideration of revised preliminary report has been deferred by the council in view of high cost of the scheme.

2. Newport: contract documents were submitted to my Department on 28th June, 1965, and are being examined by my technical advisers.

3. Bangor-Erris: final contract documents are being prepared by the council's consulting engineer.

4. Ballina Quay: contract documents were submitted to my Department on 11th June, 1965, and are being examined by my technical advisers.
