Vol. 219 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Schools.

170.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the very bad condition of the national schools at Calla, Roundstone and Ballinafad, County Galway; and what immediate steps he proposes to take in the matter.

In accordance with the announced policy of centralising small schools my Department is at present investigating the question of providing a central school which will accommodate the children from Calla as well as from other school districts. When a decision has been taken the Reverend Manager will be communicated with in the matter.

Sketch plans for a new school to replace Ballinafad and three other schools in the neighbourhood have been issued to the Reverend Manager. A grant towards the cost of the new school will be sanctioned when evidence of title to the site has been submitted and agreement reached in regard to the local contribution. The Commissioners of Public Works will then prepare working drawings and a specification with a view to the invitation of tenders.
