Vol. 219 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tralee Building Sites.

68.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that for years Tralee Urban District Council developed sites for private house building and sold them for approximately £200 to £240; and that at present further sites are being developed and on account of the cost of development the selling price is over £400; and, if so, if he will now consider providing some assistance to the local authority to enable them to sell these sites for a reduced amount.

I am so aware but I understand that, notwithstanding the increase in price, there is a good demand for the sites now being developed. Section 44 of the new Housing Bill provides for the payment of State subsidy towards annual loan charges incurred by a housing authority in respect of money borrowed by them for the provision of sites for building purposes, in cases where the work of developing the sites commenced on or after the 1st July, 1965. Work was started after the latter date on the sites which are being developed at present.
