Vol. 219 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

102.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the position regarding water supply and sewerage facilities for houses being built at Coscarrig, Loughrea, County Galway.

There is already a water supply serving the Coscarrig area. I approved of the acceptance of a tender for a sewerage extension to the area on 30th June last. I understand that due to the danger of flooding, particularly at the pumphouse site which is almost at lake level, work on the extension will not commence until January next.

103.

asked the Minister for Local Government if a sewerage scheme for Rosses Point has been sanctioned; and, if not, when sanction will be given, as such a scheme is long overdue at this well-known seaside resort.

A preliminary report on a proposed sewerage scheme for Rosses Point was received in my Department in December, 1961. Certain alterations to the plans were suggested to Sligo County Council on 11th April, 1962. It is understood that the council have deferred consideration of these suggestions pending a final decision on their general planning proposals for the area.

104.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether proposals for a public sewerage scheme for Kilmore Quay have been submitted to him by the Wexford County Council; if they have been approved; and when work is expected to start.

Examination of proposals received from the Wexford County Council for a sewerage scheme for Kilmore Quay have been completed and approval to the preparation of contract documents will issue shortly. I am not in a position to say when work will commence on the scheme.

Is the date of commencement up to the local authority?

After this has gone from me, it will be up to them.

There are other things, such as the application for a loan?

There are other things like money.

The Minister is very touchy about money today.

I am not touchy about it; I am careful of it.

He is so fond of it he will not give it out.

105.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction the preliminary report submitted to him on 23rd September last in connection with a sewerage scheme for West End, Millstreet, County Cork; and at what date he expects to sanction this report.

The preliminary report and plans for the proposed Millstreet sewerage extension are at present under examination. I am not in a position to say when approval will issue.
