129.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs how many persons will be taken on in Dublin by his Department for Christmas work in the following categories: (a) postmen, (b) sorters, (c) drivers and (d) any other categories.

About 1,750 temporary postmen will be taken on by my Department in Dublin for Christmas work this year. About 830 of these will be employed on delivering mail, 420 on sorting duties and 500 on other duties such as tying, sealing, trucking and loading mail bags, facing and date-stamping letters. None of the persons recruited will be employed as drivers but it is proposed to hire under contract some 50 or 60 vans for which drivers will be supplied by the contractors concerned.

130.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state with respect to the temporary staff recruited in Dublin for Christmas postal work the number (a) married and (b) unmarried.

Of those who have been provisionally accepted for temporary employment on Christmas postal work in Dublin, 176 are married and 2,150 are unmarried.
