Vol. 219 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare School.

149.

asked the Minister for Education what steps he proposes to take to resolve the present difficulties in respect of Ticknevin School, Carbury, County Kildare in the interests of the children who would normally attend that school.

I have had a preliminary investigation carried out in this case. I shall arrange to have a full investigation made when details have been supplied to me of the complaints of the parents concerned. I have asked to be supplied with these details.

Asked whom?

The Deputy, for one.

The Minister's Department has got them.

I am mistaken. I should have said a letter was on its way to the Deputy when he telephoned and gave the information. I should also say another complaint was received by me from another Deputy before I heard from Deputy Sweetman and he has been asked to get in touch with the people who made the complaints to him and furnish the details.

Is the Minister aware the details were sent into his Department a month ago by me, together with the names of the people concerned, and the original letter, of which I got a photostat copy made?

I am not so aware. Does the Deputy say that a month ago he sent to my Department details of the allegations and the names of the persons concerned?

What then was the information he gave recently over the telephone?

The names of other people to whom to go.

I know that the information available to me was not sufficient to enable me to have the matter fully investigated. There seemed to be general complaints made but I had not got the names of the people making the complaints, details of the incidents, or the dates on which they were alleged to have taken place.

I suggest the Minister chases the letter that went into his Department a month ago. Anyway, there will be a full investigation made now.

The matter is being investigated fully at present.

The Minister is aware the school is closed?
