Vol. 219 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compensation for Flood Losses.

1.

asked the Taoiseach what steps he is taking to compensate householders, shopkeepers and others who have suffered losses and hardships as a result of the recent flooding in County Dublin.

2.

asked the Taoiseach if, having regard to the recent flooding in many parts of the City of Dublin and the Dublin Corporation's lack of power to afford compensation in respect of damage done to household effects or furniture to people not covered by insurance or other means, he will arrange for such people to be compensated.

With your permission, Sir, I propose to take Questions Nos. 1 and 2 together.

I would refer the Deputies to my reply to questions addressed to me in this House on 25th November last and to replies by the Minister for Local Government to questions addressed to him on the same day.

Since then, as announced on 26th November, the Government have made a special grant of £10,000 available to the Irish Red Cross Society with a view to enabling the Society to relieve exceptional cases of personal distress due to flooding and storm damage during this winter.
