Vol. 219 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Bus Shelters.

45.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Local Government whether the Planning Department of Dublin Corporation has yet decided in consultation with CIE on the erection of bus shelters on Eden Quay and Bachelor's Walk to cater for north-bound passengers, thus affording such passengers the same facilities as at present exist for south-bound passengers on Aston Quay.

46.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Local Government whether the Planning Department of Dublin Corporation has considered the erection of a new type of bus shelter, as many of the present ones are in very bad condition as a result of vandalism; and whether any repairs to existing shelters have been undertaken.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 45 and 46 together.

The provision of such bus shelters is a matter for CIE, subject to the consent of the Dublin Corporation. I understand, however, that CIE propose to erect a bus shelter, of a similar type to that on Aston Quay, at Bachelor's Walk in the near future and on Eden Quay when the final location of the bus termini at Eden Quay has been decided; these proposals require the approval of the Corporation, which is at present considering the proposal in relation to Bachelor's Walk.

I also understand that CIE intend introducing a new type of bus shelter at future locations for small shelters. This type of shelter has been tried out recently at one location in Dublin.

Under an administrative arrangement Dublin Corporation maintain these shelters but experiments with a new type of glass have delayed repairs to shelters. The experiments have been completed and repairs are now being carried out.
