Vol. 219 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Creamery Milk Supply Payments.

114.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries why some creameries pay suppliers according to butter fat and other creameries pay the milk suppliers according to the test of milk per gallon.

All creameries are required by law to calculate the price they pay for milk on the basis of the percentage of butter-fat contained in it. When informing their milk suppliers of the results of the calculation, some creameries choose to express it in terms of a price per pound of butter-fat contained in the milk, while others express it as a price per gallon of milk of a stated butter-fat content. This is a matter of individual choice but the basic method of calculation is similar in all cases.
