Vol. 220 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Swords (Dublin) Housing.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has yet sanctioned the provision of funds for the erection of much-needed houses at Swords, County Dublin; and, if not, why.

This loan has now been sanctioned on the understanding that the scheme will not give rise to any additional commitment on the Local Loans Fund in the current financial year.

Does that mean those houses can now be started and building can go ahead?

It is quite possible that that is so.

I want to try to get information from the Minister. He knows the troubled history of this proposal full well because several members of his Party along with myself drew it to his notice. Everybody is incensed by the fact that the loan has been delayed so long. There are 180 people from Swords looking for houses. The Minister says that the loan has been sanctioned. Does that mean that the work can go ahead now?

It does, provided that no money is required from the Local Loans Fund before 1st April.

That is Greek to the people who want the houses.

That means it cannot be started.

You would not like to lay odds on that?
