asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will say in respect of applicants for temporary employment on Christmas postal work in Dublin the numbers who were (a) married and (b) unmarried; and the numbers in each category who were actually engaged.

297 of the applicants for the employment in question were married and 2,474 unmarried. Of those actually engaged, 129 were married and 1,600 unmarried.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state in respect of the Dublin area the names and addresses of the contractors from whom vans were hired for Christmas postal work; the number of vehicles hired from each contractor; the total cost of the arrangement; and the method used for selecting the contractors.

The names and addresses of contractors from whom vans were hired for Christmas postal work in the Dublin area in 1965 and the number of vehicles hired from each contractor are given in a statement which with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, will be circulated with the Official Report.

The total cost of hiring the vans was £2,328 12s. 4d.

The method used for selecting contractors was to invite tenders for the work and then to place contracts to the required extent with persons submitting the most acceptable tenders.
