Vol. 221 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Urban Roads Developments.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make grants available to cover payment of compensation for land taken for road widening in urban areas, especially where the land must be purchased as a result of a decision taken under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, refusing to permit of the development of any particular site or part thereof and where the council are of opinion that the land will be required for road-widening purposes some time in the future.

The cost of acquisition of land required for, and forming part of, an approved scheme of road widening in either an urban or a rural area is recoupable in full out of the Road Fund. It would not be practicable to extend this arrangement on the basis envisaged by the Deputy.
