asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amounts payable at present to (a) the Government of the Republic of Ireland, (b) the Government of Northern Ireland and (c) the British Government in respect of each of the following legal transactions (i) extracting Grant of Administration of an estate of net value £3,000, (ii) stamping a transfer of registered land on a scale at £3,000; and (iii) registering a transfer of registered land on a sale at £3,000; and if he will state the amount payable to the Government of the Republic of Ireland or its predecessors in respect of legal transactions at 31st December at five yearly intervals from 1925 to 1955 inclusive, at 31st December for each year from 1960 to 1965 inclusive and on 15th April, 1966.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

I have assumed that the legal transactions referred to at the end of the Deputy's question are those to which he has referred in the body of the question.

I am not in a position to supply the information sought as to the amounts payable in Northern Ireland and in England on comparable transactions.

Reduced to £30 (a) from 1 December 1947, if the sale is of a house by a public utility society to a member; (b) if the sale is of a newly-built house in respect of which a grant is payable under the 1948 Housing (Amendment) Act or later Housing Acts; (c) from 2 July, 1952, if the purchaser and vendor are closely related.

This table does not take account of the £25 per cent. rate of Stamp Duty which, from 1st December, 1947, could have applied to certain transfers of land to non-nationals.
