Vol. 222 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seizure of Publication.

13.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to a report that copies of a publication entitled The Separatist had been seized at a Drogheda printing works by Gardaí; if it is a fact; and, if so, the grounds on which the publication was seized.

I have no reason to think that the owner of the printing works in question has any complaint to make about the action of the Garda Síochána or is in any doubt about the reasons for the action they took.

The publication in question was the subject of criminal proceedings on 3rd May when person in possession of it were convicted of possession of an incriminating document.

Would the Minister state why he decides that this is an incriminating document? Has he read the document? Is he aware that it was published privately by one individual and was not published by any organisation?

I have read the document in very great detail. I think all Members of the House, with the possible exception of Deputy O'Connell, on reading the document, would agree it contains much matter which was a direct incitement of subversive activity.

Due to the unsatisfactory nature of the Minister's reply, I propose to raise this matter on the Adjournment.

I shall communicate with the Deputy.
