Vol. 223 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reduction in Special Allowance.

11.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that a person (name supplied) was reduced in her special military allowance in January last owing to the fact that she had reached the age of 70 and was entitled to full old age pension; and that this person has not yet received her old age pension book; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The claim in question was duly investigated and sent to the local old age pensions sub-committee for decision. Income from special allowance and military service pension amounts to £135 of which £80 is disregarded in the assessment of means for old age pension purposes. Payment of pension at the rate of 37/6d per week has been recommended by the Social Welfare officer to the pensions sub-committee which is the deciding authority. I am informed that the next meeting of the sub-committee is due to be held on 13th instant.
