Vol. 223 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compulsory Acquisition of Dublin Dwellings.

15.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Local Government if he can state how many dwellings were acquired by compulsory order by Dublin Corporation from the beginning of this year; and what compensation payments were involved.

I am informed by Dublin Corporation that the information sought is not readily available in the form required.

Since 1st January, 1966, the Corporation have been engaged in the acquisition and clearance of properties included in nine separate areas in respect of which compulsory purchase orders are operative. Due to the nature of the properties involved, including owner-occupied for residential purposes, part business/part residential and multiple dwellings of the tenement type, it is not feasible to refer to the acquired properties as containing a specific number of separate dwellings. For the same reasons, plus the fact that a settlement with any one individual owner may relate to a number of properties in the same CPO area, the compensation cannot be apportioned as between dwellings and other property. The total compensation paid in respect of all properties in the nine areas since the beginning of this year was £62,391.

In addition the Corporation have been completing in the same period the acquisition of miscellaneous outstanding interests in properties in older compulsory purchase order areas.
