Vol. 223 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary Milk Processing Factory.

43.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will state, in view of the very considerable publicity given early last year to the proposed setting up of a milk processing factory in Tipperary town, what is the exact position in regard to the establishment of this factory; and when it is expected to commence production.

I indicated in reply to a question from the Deputy on 15th June, 1965, that I had given my agreement in principle for the establishment of a milk processing factory in Tipperary.

I understand that negotiations for the establishment of the factory are still proceeding between the interests concerned and that it is expected the financial and other arrangements will take some further time to finalise.

Can the Minister give any indication as to when this enterprise might commence? There was quite a lot of publicity about it, particularly before the last election.

I am anxious that this project should materialise as quickly as possible and I have taken all steps within my power to bring it to fruition. I have met the people concerned on many occasions and indicated my complete support for the project. Anything I can do to bring it to fruition will be done, but unfortunately it does not lie with me entirely.
