Vol. 225 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lighting of Achill Pier.

22.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the difficulty of landing fish after nightfall at Darby's Point pier, Achill, County Mayo, because of the delay in providing adequate lighting facilities there; and when he proposes to remedy this situation.

I refer the Deputy to my reply to his question on 27th September. Mayo County Council have since accepted the offer of a full cost grant of £4,000 and arrangements are now being made for carrying out the work. Priority will be given to the Darby's Point section of the work.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary be a little more specific as to the date on which the lights are likely to be erected? May I at this stage thank him for his efforts to have the work expedited? It is very necessary work. Could he be more specific as to when the work will be completed, as it is a very urgent matter?

The Deputy has no reason to fear that there will be any delay at all.

Thank you.
