Vol. 225 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wheat Acreage.

81.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what action the Government intend to take to increase the acreage of wheat sown and save buying from abroad.

The price for wheat was increased by 10/- per barrel this year and, as returns to growers from the 1966 harvest have been generally satisfactory, an increase in wheat acreage in 1967 can reasonably be anticipated.

In view of the catastrophic drop of 304,000 acres in the wheat acreage since 1954, can the Minister tell us if he intends increasing the price of wheat this year, and when he intends to announce his policy for tillage for next year?

A Deputy

How many acres did the Deputy grow this year?

More than the Deputy.
