Vol. 225 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Widening of Dublin Square.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that over ten years have passed since the Dublin City Manager indicated that compulsory powers would be used in order to widen and resurface Belgrave Square East, Dublin; if he will explain the cause of the delay in this matter; and if he can say when the work is likely to be carried out.

As indicated in reply to previous questions by the Deputy the execution of the scheme referred to was held up by difficulties associated with the acquisition of the necessary land in respect of which Dublin Corporation had to resort to compulsory proceedings. Contract documents for the scheme were recently approved by my Department and the corporation are now in a position to proceed with the invitation of tenders. I understand that the corporation expect that work will commence in about May, 1967.

You will do with that what you did with the tenders for Valentia Bridge—put them on the long finger.

Will the Deputy permit me to proceed with the Questions? If the Deputy persists, I will have to ask him to leave the House.
