Vol. 226 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building of New Dublin Hospital.

113.

asked the Minister for Health the present position regarding the building of a new St. Laurence's Hospital in Dublin; and when work on the project will commence.

Following the exchange of views early last year between my predecessor and the hospital board, arrangements were made for an examination by a group composed of members of the board and officers of my Department of the accommodation to be provided in the new hospital, having regard to current thinking on the functions of a large teaching hospital and to the organisation of the health services on a regional basis. Following a report by the group a more detailed examination of the functions and requirements of each department of the hospital is being carried out by the medical authorities of the hospital.

Having regard to the foregoing, it will be appreciated that it is not possible to state at present when building will commence.
