Vol. 227 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Criminal Injury Code.

42.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Justice if, with a view to easing the heavy burden of local rates, he proposes to accept the recommendations made in 1963 by the interdepartmental committee on malicious injuries that revision of the criminal injury code is necessary; and, if so, what steps he has taken, or intends to take, to implement such recommendations.

A summary of the report of the interdepartmental committee on malicious injuries was published in September, 1965 so as to assess public reaction to the committee's recommendations. These recommendations deal with malicious injuries to the person as well as to property, and their acceptance would involve substantial changes in the law.

I hope to submit definitive proposals in the matter to the Government in the near future.
