Vol. 227 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin School.

45.

asked the Minister for Education what is the present position regarding the building of a new school to replace St. Brigid's national school at Castleknock, County Dublin.

My Department has decided that a new school should be provided in Castleknock. A site proposed by the Reverend Manager for the new school has been accepted as suitable and I understand that negotiations for its purchase are almost complete.

An assessment of the accommodation requirements for the new school is being made at present and the remaining arrangements for the planning and building of the school will be put in hands very shortly.

Has the Minister any estimate of when a school will in fact be in existence and would he consider the desirability of providing some sort of play-yard space at the existing school if it is going to take long? My information is that they are up to their tonsils in mud there. That is one of the great defects as well as everything else in that school.

I am not in a position to indicate when a school is likely to be completed there. In regard to the second part of the Deputy's question, I understand certain repairs have taken place to the school from time to time, but the Deputy's suggestion in regard to the play-yard being dealt with will be conveyed to the Minister.

And the toilets.
