Ceisteanna—Questions (Resumed). - County Dublin Public Lighting.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the very poor standard of public lighting in the area of Dublin County Council compared with the standard provided by Dublin Corporation, which constitutes a growing traffic hazard particularly on major traffic arteries; and if with a view to remedying the situation steps will be taken to expedite the improvement of public lighting in County Dublin.

The provision of improved public lighting in County Dublin is a matter for the County council.

I understand that the council propose to undertake a review of the standard of lighting in the more heavily populated districts in their area in the coming financial year with a view to identifying the extent of improvements required and the cost involved.

I am also informed that the council have a programme, to be undertaken over a number of years, for major improvements of public lighting on main traffic routes in built-up areas in the county.
