Vol. 228 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Supply Schemes.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government what the present position is regarding a public water supply for the Ballinafad and Castlebaldwin areas of County Sligo; and if he will give the reason for the delay in implementing the proposed scheme.

Contract documents for the Castlebaldwin-Ballinafad water supply scheme were approved by my Department on the 4th March, 1965, subject to a number of amendments including reconsideration of the location chosen as a site for the main reservoir for the scheme. I understand that Sligo County Council have selected an alternative site for this reservoir but revised documents have not been submitted to my Department to date.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgency of extending the Ballymote regional water scheme to the Ardnaglass-Carnaree area in the Ballymote electoral area of County Sligo; if he will make a statement on the present position regarding the Ballymote regional water scheme; and when it is expected to be completed.

I am informed by Sligo County Council that the Ballymote regional water supply scheme is expected to be completed shortly.

Preliminary proposals for a number of extensions to the scheme, including the extension referred to by the Deputy, were submitted to my Department on 21st ultimo and are at present under examination.

When did it begin?

I do not know.

Long after the North County Dublin scheme?

It is not as big a scheme as that.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the present position with regard to the regional water supply for Kilkieran, Carna, Connemara; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Preliminary proposals for the Kilkieran-Carna regional water supply scheme were approved in principle by my Department on 13th July last.

No further proposals in the matter have been submitted to date.

Question No. 27 postponed.
