Vol. 228 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Telephone Applications.

3.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applications for telephones in (a) Galway city and (b) Galway county; and when he hopes to have telephones installed.

The numbers are: (a) 90, (b) 225. Arrangements are at present in hands to connect a total of 170 applicants and it is hoped to offer service to the remainder later this year.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say how far back these applications go?

There is one application awaiting attention since 1965, due to the difficulty of getting wayleave permission. There are 64 waiting since 1966 and they will all be covered in the total of 170 applications in hands for connection at present. In both cases these are in the county.

How many are outstanding in the city area?

There is none. The only thing about it is that records are maintained by exchange areas which do not conform to borough or county boundaries.
