Vol. 228 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Architectural Maintenance Staff.

9.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the present position regarding the claims for improved conditions of employment submitted to his Department by the architectural maintenance staff at Shannon Airport.

Following Government approval arrangements are being made for the introduction of a sick pay scheme and a pension scheme for the architectural maintenance workers employed at Shannon Airport. It is hoped to furnish details of the schemes to the unions concerned in the near future.

The claim for plus rates was granted in July, 1966 with effect from 1st April, 1966. Additional protective clothing on a pool basis has been supplied but it is not in accordance with outside trade practice to make individual issues.

The question of additional holidays is being actively examined in line with the recent agreement between the Building Trades Federation and the unions. Service pay is not a feature of the building industry and I am unable to introduce it for the staff in question at the airports.
