Vol. 228 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Traffic Junction.

19.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the great traffic confusion which is now a daily occurrence at the junction of Fitzwilliam Place and Leeson Street, Dublin; why adequate Garda control is not provided at this main traffic artery; and if he proposes to rectify the situation.

Except on occasions when gardaí are not available due to other pressing demands, members of the Force are on traffic control duty on all weekdays except Saturday at both ends of Leeson Street Bridge during the peak traffic hours, that is from 8 a.m. to 9.45 a.m., from 12.30 p.m. to 1.45 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. The Garda authorities are satisfied that the control is adequate.

It is proposed to have traffic lights to control the junctions at both ends of the bridge and a traffic management survey is at present being conducted in the general vicinity of it to determine whether any changes in the traffic pattern are necessary before the lights are provided.
