Vol. 228 No. 9

Redundancy Payments Bill, 1967: First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to provide for the making by employers of payments to employees in respect of redundancy, to establish a Redundancy Fund and to require employers and employees to pay contributions towards that fund, to provide for payment to be made out of that fund to employers and employees, to provide financial assistance to certain unemployed persons changing residence, and to provide for other matters (including offences) connected with the matters aforesaid.
—(Minister for Labour.)

I would like to request the Minister to tell us when he intends circulating this Bill, as it might be of great importance to workers in textile factories——

The Deputy is not entitled to make a statement now.

I appeal to the Members of the Labour and Fine Gael Parties to co-operate in having this Bill passed as soon as possible.

The Fine Gael Party are well aware of their responsibilities in this regard. I would recommend the same course to the Deputy. When will the Bill be circulated?

Within a couple of days.

Second Stage ordered for Tuesday, 24th May, 1967.

Is that not a little early in view of the fact that it will be circulated only at the week-end?
