Vol. 228 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

7.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the hardship endured by the people of Rathkeaveny, Barne, Springmount, Grange and Marlfield, Clonmel, County Tipperary due to an acute shortage of water; what proposals he has for the provision of water to this area; and when they are likely to be implemented.

The areas referred to by the Deputy are included in the first section of the Clonmel regional water supply scheme, contract documents for which have been submitted by the Tipperary (SR) County Council and are under consideration in my Department.

I am not in a position to say when approval thereto is likely to issue.

8.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in regard to the water supply improvement scheme for Mallow town, County Cork.

Revised preliminary proposals for this scheme, which were received in my Department on 22nd March last are at present under examination.

9.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will take steps to expedite sanction for the proposed water supply scheme for Kilcommon village, County Tipperary, and for the raising of the necessary loan.

Detailed documents for Kilcommon water supply scheme together with Tipperary (NR) County Council's application for a loan to finance the scheme are under consideration in my Department. I hope to convey a decision in the matter to the local authority shortly.

10.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the reason for the delay in regard to the Moorland group water scheme, Dundalk.

I understand that some difficulty has been experienced by the group in obtaining delivery of pipes. This scheme was approved early in February last and it is now a matter for the group to get the work under way. There has been no delay on the part of my Department.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position with regard to the implementation of a much-needed sewerage scheme to meet the needs of the people of Ballingarry, Thurles, County Tipperary.

Revised preliminary proposals for Ballingarry sewerage scheme are under consideration in my Department. I am not in a position to say when approval thereto is likely to issue.
