Vol. 228 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Protestant School.

18.

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the representations of the manager and the parents of children attending St. James Protestant national school, Durrus, Bantry, County Cork that the school should be retained, he will accede to their request having regard to the fact that there are 16 Protestant children attending at present and a further 18 children under the age of five years in the area.

It has been decided following consultation with the Diocesan authorities that it would be in the best educational interests of the children concerned to close this one-teacher school and have the children conveyed to the larger school in Bantry. The closing has, however, been postponed pending receipt of a report from the Commissioners of Public Works on the state of the Bantry school building.
