Vol. 229 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballymun Housing Project.

7.

asked the Minister for Local Government why the contractors of the Ballymun housing project have not handed over to Dublin Corporation the balance of the 1,300 structurally completed dwellings, having particular regard to the various unfulfilled promises of hand-overs which were made to the corporation.

I am informed that on 30th June, the number of dwellings in the Ballymun scheme regarded as structurally complete was 1,309. 665 of these have been handed over, and I understand that another 93 will be handed over in a few days, followed by a further 93 in a matter of a week or so. Of the remaining 458 dwellings which are structurally complete, 180 are in two tower blocks. The work on the revisions required to certain flats in these blocks by the Housing Committee of Dublin Corporation, to which I referred in my reply of 14th June, is proceeding, and the finishing of the balance of 278 is also in progress.

I would point out to the Deputy that the immediate handing over to the corporation of structurally completed dwellings is not possible until decoration and other finishing work has been completed.

Will the Minister explain why there were so many promises made about the handover of these flats which have not been fulfilled?

I do not know what promises the Deputy is referring to.

Quite obviously, the Minister has been in touch with Dublin Corporation about this matter. They have been repeatedly promised flats from the Ballymun project for many, many months and they got only 93 last Tuesday, despite the many promises. I want to know why so many promises were made and not fulfilled.

I do not know of any promises that have not been fulfilled but the contractors expect to complete the project in the allotted time.

Will the Minister find out why the promises were not fulfilled?

If the Deputy asks me why certain specific promises were not fulfilled, I will look into the matter for him but he will have to tell me to what promises he refers.

asked the Minister for Local Government how many houses and flats in the Ballymun housing project have been handed over to Dublin Corporation; and on what dates the hand-overs took place.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:
