Vol. 230 No. 2

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: No. 1 and No. 11. Questions will be taken at 3 p.m.

Might I inquire when it is proposed to take No. 2?

I propose to move that that business be taken at 7 o'clock tomorrow evening.

I wish to give notice that that time limit does not comply with Standing Order No. 27, and that we would object to the proposal.

Might I inquire of the Taoiseach or the Ceann Comhairle is it possible that a closure motion will be introduced by the Taoiseach on Motion No. 2?

I cannot anticipate the length of that discussion.

It makes a farce of the whole business of Dáil Éireann if there is going to be an unlimited discussion bound up in the Marts Bill. It could possibly take weeks. We have the EEC debate after that.

That is hardly likely to happen.

If we are to sit all through July, there are more important things to be discussed than a motion like this on the Marts Bill.

I told you that once they had a clear majority, they would go berserk.

We are entitled to do the business of the nation in this House with the majority they have given us.

You are running away from public opinion. You are fleeing from public debate—from outraged public opinion.

It is you who are making a farce of it.

You are running away from public debate.

(Interruptions.)

The Taoiseach is running away from the Minister for Agriculture. The Minister dictated what the Taoiseach should put down.

Do not talk nonsense. I put the motion down of my own volition. I am the dictator if there is any dictatorship. If there is any allegation of dictatorship, it should be directed to me.
