Vol. 231 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions (Resumed). - Forestry and Land Commission Workers.

53.

asked the Minister for Lands the average working hours of forestry workers and of Land Commission workers.

It is assumed that the question concerns outdoor workers only. Following are the actual working hours of Land Commission and Forestry workers.

Building Workers

42½ hours per week

Gangers, Labourers, Well-drillers in Land Commission. Leading Workers, Forest workers andoperators in Forestry Division

45 hours per week

Estate workers in the Land Commission—herds, caretakers, etc.—are also employed, the majority on a parttime basis, but their work does not lend itself to a rigid definition of hours. Generally full-time herds work 50 hours per week in summer and 44 hours per week in winter.
