asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of times appeals officers attended at the Cork Employment Exchange in the past year; the number of cases dealt with on each occasion; and if he will consider the advisability of appointing an officer permanently at large offices to deal with cases on a weekly basis.
Ceisteanna—Questions (Resumed). - Cork Social Welfare Appeals.
In the past year appeals officers attended on 26 days at the employment exchange, Cork. As particulars of the number of cases dealt with on each occasion are in tabular form, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate them with the Official Report.
I have considered the advisability of appointing officers permanently at large offices to deal with cases on a weekly basis but am of opinion that such a move would give a less efficient appeals service for the country as a whole than that provided under the existing arrangements.
Following is the statement:—
