Vol. 231 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transfer of Government Departments.

27.

asked the Minister for Finance whether civil servants who are required to move from Dublin to rural locations in connection with the proposed transfer of certain Government Departments will receive any payment in respect of the cost of disturbance and transport; and, if so, how much.

28.

asked the Minister for Finance whether civil servants with families attending Dublin schools or universities who are transferred to rural areas in connection with the proposed transfer of certain Government Departments, will receive special allowances to assist in meeting the cost of boarding for such children in Dublin pending the completion of their academic courses.

29.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has any proposals for adjustment allowances for employees of the decentralised Departments.

30.

asked the Minister for Finance how many of the 88 members of the staff of the Department of Lands in Dublin of the rank of paperkeeper, messenger, cleaner, fuel-carrier and similar grades it is estimated will be transferred to Castlebar; and what housing accommodation and other employment opportunities for their families will be available for them there.

31.

asked the Minister for Finance how many of the 59 members of the staff of the Department of Education in Dublin of the rank of paperkeeper, messenger, cleaner, fuel-carrier and similar grades it is estimated will be transferred to Athlone; and what housing accommodation and other employment opportunities for their families will be available for them there.

32.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, in connection with the proposed transfer of hundreds of unmarried civil servants from Dublin to Castlebar and Athlone, any investigation has been carried out of the number of householders in these towns who would be willing to take in boarders; and, if so, with what result.

33.

asked the Minister for Finance whether it is proposed to build hostels in Castlebar or Athlone to accommodate unmarried civil servants; if so, by whom the hostels will be built and maintained; and by whom the capital required for building the accommodation will be provided.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 27 to 33 together.

These matters are appropriate for discussion with the staff associations. Discussion on a number of items has commenced at the General Council under the conciliation and arbitration machinery for the Civil Service.

Can the Minister say what staff associations he will consult on behalf of the cleaners, messengers and paperkeepers; and apart from the discussions that will take place, will he carry out any investigation to ascertain the housing and alternative employment facilities in Castlebar and Athlone for the widows who are cleaners and for the other people who are employed as messengers and paperkeepers?

All these people will be completely looked after. The Deputy need have no worry.

Will the Minister be transferring the cleaners, paperkeepers and messengers to Castlebar and Athlone?

I said they would be looked after.

Will the Minister say what way they will be looked after? Will it be by transferring them?

Do not be silly.

The Minister is being obstinate and silly. These are the people who are being overlooked in this magnificent gimmick of the Minister.

The Deputy may not make a speech. Question No. 34.

The little people are being ignored. They are being shoved around for a poor, shallow gimmick.

Wait till they go.

So they are going? You are going to transfer the widows and these other people?
