Vol. 232 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Traffic Surveys.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give details of the most recent traffic surveys in respect of each major road extending from Limerick city; if any estimates have been prepared of possible traffic density on the roads in question; and if he will give details of any proposals to facilitate the free flow of traffic on the roads concerned, which are being considered by the local authorities concerned.

As the reply includes a tabular statement, I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report. I have been informed by the road authorities concerned that details of the most recent traffic counts taken by them on the routes in question are:

On the basis of present traffic volumes as indicated in the table and of estimated future traffic density on the routes in question, it is considered by the road authorities that major improvements will be required to the following routes:

T.11, Limerick-Ennis.

T.11, Limerick-Patrickswell.

T.5, Limerick-Dublin (to Newport junction).

The formulation of appropriate road improvement schemes is a matter for the road authorities.
