Vol. 232 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick City Fuel Scheme.

28.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he has received a request from Limerick Corporation for a supplementary grant to extend the cheap fuel scheme for old age pensioners and persons in receipt of home assistance and other social welfare payments up to the end of March because of harsh weather conditions; if he proposes to sanction this request; and, if not, why.

Grants are not payable under the cheap fuel scheme to any local authority in respect of fuel supplied to home assistance recipients. The cost in all such cases is met in full by the public assistance authority. If any family is in need of fuel and unable to provide it, the local assistance authority may supply it as assistance in kind.

I am not in a position to provide an increased grant towards the Limerick cheap fuel scheme.
