Vol. 232 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Health Services.

43.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the inadequacy of the health services to meet the needs of the people in Ballingarry, Thurles, County Tipperary, owing to the lack of a dispensary doctor and dispensary services; and what steps he is taking to remedy this situation.

The Deputy will be aware of the unsuccessful efforts made in recent years to provide for the appointment of a district medical officer for the Ballingarry dispensary district on a permanent or even on a temporary basis. A further effort is now being made to recruit a suitable person for appointment in a permanent capacity and I understand that on 23rd February last the Local Appointments Commission issued advertisements for applicants for this and other similar posts. I hope that they will be able to recommend an appointee for the district.

In the meantime the medical officer of a neighbouring district will continue to serve the Ballingarry area.
