Vol. 233 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Maintenance Grants.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give details of the availability of grants to urban district councils for the maintenance of culs-de-sac and other private roads.

There are no funds at my disposal from which grants can be given to urban district councils for the maintenance of culs-de-sac or other private roads. I may add that a county council may carry out a "local improvement scheme" in an urban district within the county under the Local Government (Roads and Drainage) Act, 1968, and that grants will be made to county councils for such schemes in the coming financial year. It will rest with the county council to decide what schemes should be done with the aid of the grant, and, of course, schemes must be within the scope of the Act.
