Vol. 233 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Open Spaces.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the need to preserve all such green-belt areas as exist in the metropolitan district, he will state what powers he has at his disposal to ensure that Ringsend Park, Dublin, in its entirety will be maintained for the benefit of the people of Ringsend and neighbouring areas.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the Catholic University School grounds, Bath Avenue, Ballsbridge, Dublin are due for sale; if he will take steps to ensure that this open area is preserved in the interests of public health for the neighbouring residents; and what powers he has at his disposal to ensure that this grassland area is placed at the disposal of all citizens as a public park.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 24 and 25 together.

Representations in these matters should be addressed to Dublin Corporation. As the planning authority, it is the corporation's responsibility to determine the objectives for their area in regard to the preservation or provision of public open space. The draft development plan for the city provides for the preservation of the municipal park at Ringsend. As regards the CUS grounds, I understand that the corporation have no proposal at present for the acquisition of these grounds as a public park.
