asked the Minister for Defence (a) the number of commissioned officers in the Irish Army; (b) how many non-commissioned officers have been selected for officer training courses in the past year; and (c) how many of these non-commissioned officers have been commissioned.

(a) The number of commissioned officers in the Permanent Defence Force as on 23rd March, 1968, was 1,113; (b) no non-commissioned officers of the Permanent Defence Force have been selected for officer training courses in the past year, and part (c) of the Deputy's question does not therefore arise.
