Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Facilities for Western Fishermen.

20.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what steps he intends to take to help fishermen in the west of Ireland, particularly in the lobster-fishing areas, by the provision of proper boats and equipment.

An Bord Iascaigh Mhara has been operating a Marine Credit Plan with funds provided from the Exchequer, under which grants and loans are made available for the purchase of fishing boats and gear. These financial incentives are very attractive and are widely known and availed of by fishermen including lobster fishermen on the west coast.
