Vol. 234 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Vocational Schools.

36.

asked the Minister for Education if the survey of vocational schools in County Dublin has been completed; if so, how many more schools will be needed; and where they will be needed.

The post-primary school accommodation for County Dublin is under continuous review in my Department. So far it has been decided that new vocational schools are required at Clondalkin, Walkinstown and Rathfarnham.

Is it seriously suggested, after a survey going on for six or 12 months, that only three additional vocational schools are required in County Dublin?

That is not to be taken from this reply. I said that, so far, it has been decided that three vocational schools are required at Clondalkin, Walkinstown and Rathfarnham. Further consideration is being given to proposals submitted by the County Dublin Vocational Education Committee.

Is the Minister aware that this survey was going on when the present Minister for Industry and Commerce was Minister for Education— and that is two and a half years ago? Surely it cannot seriously be said that the survey is not yet completed in respect of the County of Dublin? It held up Clondalkin school at that time.

Clondalkin school is almost built.

I am well aware of that.

Other additional accommodation is being provided and further consideration is being given to other proposals submitted by the County Dublin Vocational Education Committee.

Will the Minister impress upon the Minister for Education the present position in County Dublin which is deplorable as far as vocational education is concerned?

So much for your committee.

We could not get the money from the Government. In the past three or four years, we asked numerous questions about it.
